To be the preferred supplier of top-quality certified seed and fresh farm produce in Namibia and SADC.
About Us
Namibia Institution of Seeds (CC) is a 100 % Namibia Company established in 2018 and operating exclusively in Namibia. NIOS has a wide scope of work mainly to conserve the local crop’s genetic materials through seed production and research in collaboration with the farmers, marketing, and distribution. We work with a group of farmers in the selected area of Kavango East, Kavango West, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, and Omusati Regions. Farmers are registered as seed growers and suppliers at an agreed price. NIOS provides training and supply seeds to the farmers where necessary. Farmers’ field is inspected by NIOS to provide guidance and also to make sure that the grown crops conform to standards.
NIOS collects seeds at the farmer’s collection points where a lead farmer acts as an agent between the farmers and NIOS. The seeds are sorted and once accepted, Farmers are paid upon collection. After sorting and grading, seeds are packaged and sold National wide.
In addition to working with farmers, we also added a section for producing more seeds due to the demand for our product in recent years.
It is worth noting that our production capacity has increased from 2 tons/season of all crops to cowpea (10 tons), Bambara groundnuts (10 tons), Kalahari pearl maize (yellow and white) (10t), Pearl millet (30t), and other crops (1-2t) during 2021/2022 cropping season.
In addition, NIOS source a wide range of physical commodities, both from third-party suppliers and services from highly qualified personnel in order to give the possible product/service to our valued clients as we are affectionately known to “find solutions for needs” for our clients. We also offer value-added services, including processing, storage, and logistics that can match our scale and market knowledge to make us preferred partners for many. We strive to serve a highly diversified client, with a high proportion of long-term commercial relationships.
